Joanne Gianotto receives Community Connect Award

Joanne Gianotto has won the 2012 NRMA Insurance Inaugural Community Connect Award for Community Engagement in NSW for her work with the SES. She has volunteered with the SES for more than six years, and is currently the Deputy Local Controller of Strathfield SES.

The award is a joint initiative between the NRMA and the NSW SES, and is designed to recognise volunteers who go above and beyond to engage their local communities, ultimately leading to safer outcomes in the face of severe weather.

Joanne has played a key role in planning community events, and ensuring the culturally diverse team has access to storm safety information in multiple languages. She also set up and helps maintain social media channels for the Strathfield unit, and the Sydney Western Region region.

Peter Cinque, Sydney Western Region Controller, and Charles Casuscelli MP, the local member for Strathfield, have congratulated Joanne for making a difference.

“Thanks to Joanne’s tireless efforts, more of the community will be prepared should severe weather strike,” Mr Cinque said.

“SES volunteers are a pillar of strength in the community,” Mr Casuscelli agreed. “This award highlights the vital work SES volunteers do to educate and prepare our community to stay safe.”
